The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has removed HCPCS Code G2066 and instead updated the existing CPT codes 93297 and 93298 for evaluations of interrogation devices. Initially, CMS introduced G2066 in 2020 to cover the technical component (TC) for remote interrogation of insertable cardiac monitors and implantable loop recorders, following the removal of 93299. As per the 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) final rule, TC is now associated with 93297 and 93298. These codes are used to bill for the complete service, encompassing both professional and technical aspects of remote interrogation, without requiring modifiers, when performed by a clinician or office. Additionally, they can be billed with the 26 modifier for solely the professional service if the technical component is conducted by a different entity. In such scenarios, the TC modifier is applied only to the technical part of the remote interrogation services.
